Author of the award-winning children’s book, Hope and Fortune . . .

Marissa Bañez

A first-generation immigrant to the U.S. from the Philippines, Marissa Bañez is a graduate of Princeton University, a lawyer licensed to practice in New York, California and New Jersey, and now, an award-winning children’s illustrated book author.

She has also published legal articles for the prestigious New York Law Journal and the American Bar Association. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and daughter, whose childhood was filled with many original stories and puppet shows made up entirely by her mom.

In her free time, Marissa likes to travel, design and make clothes, cook, binge-watch Star Trek shows and Korean dramas, and occasionally strum a guitar.

After my library reading of Hope and Fortune, a 7-year-old boy took a copy of the book to read to himself and then told me how much he loved the book and that now he wants to write a book someday too.

How wonderful to be able to touch the hearts and minds of young children with just a few words and illustrations!

Recipe of the Month . . .

Recipe of the Month . . .

For the month of April, enjoy these delicious Chocolate Cheesecake Brownie Muffins.

This recipe can be made in an 8x8 or 9x9 square pan, but I like to use muffin tins because each brownie will have crunchy edges . . .
